iCloud Drive setup is taking an unusually long time

I have just been on to Apple Support with the same problem. In my case the problem appears to have been that virus software was enabled. I booted in safe mode (shift and switch on and hold down the shift for a while), then signed out of iCloud (without losing documents on the Cloud), restarted and then the iCloud setup completed. I have now disabled the anti-virus (it was Avast). Apple Support was emphatic that anti-virus was not necessary on a Mac!! Really? I hope so.

I just tried this and it worked for me too. I have Virusbarrier installed and when I booted into safe mode, and signed out and back into iCloud I was able to setup the iCloud drive. I have since rebooted normally and with Virusbarrier active I have able to access my iCloud drive.

Just a note about switching off iCloud drive in safe mode. You get a warning that ALL your files stored in iCloud will be deleted from your computer. I went ahead anyway, and nothing seems to have been lost, though it was white-knuckle for a moment. After restarting normally and switching on iCloud, the setup took an uncomfortable ten seconds, but now I do have an iCloud drive. Thanks.

Not working for me. I just upgraded to Yosemite, so that is probably the source of the problem. They can't test everything, but they seem to miss a lot of really common stuff! What is the next workaround?

That means that nothing was stored on the iCloud Drive.

What (if anything) have you stored on the iCloud Drive?

Hi.

Quit System Preferences and try again. If it's still like that when you reopen the iCloud panel, restart your machine and try again.
